It has been a cold and gloomy weekend and I am longing for Kennebunkport, Maine. Kennebunkport was made famous by the Bush family, but it’s had a quite a history and culture that started well before they came to town.
Kennebunkport grew its wealth and fame from shipbuilding and because of this, the town amassed beautiful collection of colonial and federal style homes.
I want to go back. I can’t tell you how amazing it was on that hot, summer morning. I got a fantastic muffin at the Port Bakery and Café and then headed for the beach. It was a photographer’s dream! It was sunny, the fog had not yet lifted and people were lost on the sand in thick clouds of steam. I tried to get some pics, but parking is horrible, so I had to use the drive-by technique. When I finally did get a spot, I spent a half an hour picking up sea matter for my nature collection while listening to the waves pull the rocks out to sea. Take me back!!
